Democratic Party Releases Draft Delegate Plan for 2008 Natioinal Convention

BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Democratic Party today released its draft delegate plan for the 2008 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Denver for a 30 day public comment period.

The plan outlines the selection process for sending delegates and alternates to the national convention in Denver from August 25-28, 2008. During the 30 day period, the public can submit comments, questions, and concerns regarding the plan, which will then be revised, approved, and submitted to the Democratic National Committee.

"We hope Democrats will use this 30 day period to help us improve our plan and build our delegation for 2008," said Richard Stallings, Chairman of the Idaho Democratic Party. "Our goal is to have a plan that is inclusive and open to all Democrats so we can send a diverse delegation that reflects our entire state to Denver in 2008."

The Idaho Democratic Party will send 23 delegates and 4 alternates to the national convention in Denver. Seven of the delegate seats are already been assigned by virtue of party office incumbency, leaving 16 seats to be filled.

"These delegates will nominate the next President of the United States," Stallings said. "2008 will be an exciting year for Democrats as we take back the White House and our country."

The draft plan can be viewed on the Idaho Democratic Party website at www.idaho-democrats.org. Comments and questions can be submited to, delegateselection@idaho-democrats.org. All comments should be submitted by Monday, April 9 at 5:00 p.m.

Idaho’s presidential caucus will be Feb. 5, 2008; the official preference primary will be held on May 27, 2008.
