Do Sali and Simpson Support Bush’s 50-Year Plan for Iraq?
Thursday, May 31, 2007
BOISE, Idaho
– President Bush announced yesterday that he
believes
U.S.
troops should have a long term presence in
Iraq
similar
to our presence in
South
Korea
where thousands of troops have been based for
the last 50 years.

Despite evidence that Idahoans want a change
of course in
Iraq
and
don’t want our troops policing an Iraqi civil
war, President Bush continues to
dig his heels in by sticking to a failed
strategy in
Iraq.
“Idahoans, including our
brave men and women who are serving
in Iraq, deserve to
know if
Reps. Mike Simpson and Bill Sali agree with
President Bush’s new Iraq
policy
about our troops remaining in place over the
next 50 years,” said state party
Executive Director John Foster.
The administration
originally claimed that the Iraq
war would
be short -- and that Iraqis would welcome us
with open arms. Four years later,
President Bush is singing a different
tune.
“How long will top Idaho
Republican leaders like Simpson and
Sali continue to blindly follow the
President’s misguided strategy on
Iraq? How long will they
continue to put the
interests of their party above those of the
Idahoans who say the time has come
for a new direction?
“Simpson and Sali must
draw the line by clearly outlining
whether they support President Bush’s strategy
to keep our troops in
Iraq
for the next 50 years.
Idahoans deserve
representatives who will honor the will of the
people.”
