Fellow
Democrats!
Thank you
so much for all your interest in our slogan
contest. We had more than 150
entries to judge, and it was very difficult to
pick one winner over all the
others. In fact, we couldn’t pick just ONE
winner, so we selected two.
“Expect More – Vote
Democrat!” was submitted by
Valley County.
It is difficult to tell for certain, but we
think Chuck Davis actually came up
with the words. This is a great slogan for a
lot of reasons, but one of its
main strengths is that people can read into it
their own idea. “Expect More”
dovetails nicely with the national verbage
that we used about a year or so ago –
“We can do better.” Now that the Democrats are
in Congress, people CAN “expect
more.” It also encourages people to “expect
more” from the Idaho State
Legislature. Finally, this slogan is good
because it only has four words – that
will be much more easily seen on a bumper
sticker than some of the longer slogans
that were submitted.
“Idaho
People – Idaho Values – Idaho
Democrats” is
the co-winner, submitted by Ten Vanegas of
Boise. We
really loved the way this slogan sends
the message that Idaho Democrats are your
neigbors, your business partners, your
hard working families, your friends and allies
all around the state. We have
the same middle-class values as other
Idahoans. We value our families, our
environment, our recreation, our right to
worship as we choose. We are just as vital
and as much a part of the fabric of Idaho
as anyone else. This slogan is assertive
without being aggressive. It claims our
place in the patchwork of Idaho’s
society.
This
contest was the brainchild of our
vice-chairwoman, Jeanne
Buell, and executed by most
of the staff members here at the
office. The winners were selected by
the IDP Executive Committee.
Dawna
Rassmussen-Burkett has done a GREAT job of
turning these words into logos. We are
preparing an order of banners and bumper
stickers for general use. The distribution
chain has not been set up yet, so
don’t send us your orders. However, we will
blast out that information after we
consolidate the plan.
