Idaho Democrats and progressives joined forces on Tuesday to send Alberto Gonzales back to Washington D.C. with a message he will never forget – Idaho is NOT full of unthinking neo-conservatives who will give corrupt officials an open microphone to whitewash their record.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales – “Fredo,” to his boss – instead found a high-energy crowd of determined activists determined to set the record straight.

Our message of restoring honor to the Attorney General’s Office started early Tuesday in the law offices of Dan Williams, former 1st District congressional candidate, who called for Gonzales to resign. He was followed immediately be Larry Grant, Democratic candidate for the 1st District in 2008, and Jim Hansen, 2nd District candidate, said Gonzales’ failed leadership is a national embarrassment.

The news conference, reported on web sites throughout the Treasure Valley during the day, set the tone for Tuesday afternoon.

As the Attorney General was getting ready for his own news conference at the Fort Boise Community Center, the presence of more than 100 protesters forced Gonzales and his entourage to move his appearance to a “more friendly location” and to close it to the public.

“Today is a big win for our activists -- a huge victory for those of us who demand honor and trustworthiness from our high public officials,” said Idaho Democratic Party executive director John Foster. “We did not allow the U.S. Attorney General to come to Idaho and write his own story. We fought back and we won!”
