Congratulations Broncos!

Wednesday, January 3, 2007

BOISE, Idaho – State Democratic Party Chairman Richard Stallings sends a hearty congratulations to Boise State University football Coach Chris Peterson and all Broncos for their stunning New Year's Day victory at the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

“All over the country, people trash-talked the Broncos and said they didn’t have what it takes to win against major competition,” Stallings said. “But Coach Peterson, his outstanding staff and the amazing group of players he assembled never gave up.”

The Boise State Broncos defeated the storied Oklahoma Sooners 43-42 at the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., on Monday. Some national sportswriters are calling the overtime contest the best football game since the inception of college football five years after the Civil War.

“Even as the Sooners tied the game and surged ahead late in the 4th quarter, Coach Peterson rallied his players and called the right plays,” Stallings said. “These Boise State players and coaches worked all their lives for this moment in history, and what a moment it was!”

Stallings said he couldn’t help drawing some comparisons between the Broncos and the Idaho Democratic Party.

“We know what it’s like to be the underdog, to be disrespected by the competition despite solid wins, and to have the pundits declare the game lost before it even starts,” Stalling said.

Idaho Democrats can take away some important lessons away from the Broncos and their outstanding performance.

“It will take lots of preparation and hard work; time and patience, commitment and execution. But I know that Idaho Democrats have the drive and the desire to win,” Stallings said. “Year by year, season by season, Idaho Democrats will continue to succeed.

“Perhaps it’s just a coincidence that the Broncos play on a beautiful field of blue, but I think it serves as a great reminder for our party – if we put in the effort, anything is possible.”
