Propositions, Amendments, and Fees

Proposition 1

The Ada County Democrats recommend a “YES” vote on Prop 1. This law is needed to let women make their own reproductive decisions, a private conversation with their healthcare provider. The existing law takes away rights that women have long held in this state. A YES vote will help bring back medical providers to Idaho to help with healthcare needs in Ada County and throughout the state.

HJR 4 (Constitutional Amendment - Marijuana)

The Ada County Democrats urge a “NO ” vote on HJR 4. This amendment will expand the powers of the Idaho Legislature and take away another category of policy question from the citizen initiative process. Democratic access through the initiative process is an essential remedy when the Legislature becomes unresponsive to the demands of people because of political machines, lobbyists, and other organized and moneyed interests. While HJR 4 is a question of drug policy, the impact on Idahoans' initiative power and whether a particular subject should be removed from that process outweighs the drug policy question.

HJR 6 (Constitutional Amendment - English language)

The Ada County Democrats urge a “NO ” vote on HJR 6. It is already a state law that English is the official language of Idaho. This amendment states that only English shall be used in all public proceedings, public documents, public instruction, and any other public acts of any public institution in Idaho. It may have undue consequences teaching foreign languages in public schools and universities, publications for Idaho conducting business in other countries, the ability to vote, and a long list of other things.

Local Vehicle Registration Fee

The Ada County Democrats recommend a “YES (APPROVE)” vote. The ACHD faces a funding shortfall due to legislative budget issues that have cascaded down to county organizations. This will help with construction and maintenance projects under the jurisdiction of the Ada County Highway District, including road and bridge repair, traffic congestion relief, and safe routes to school.
