What did you get up to on the 4th of July?

Idaho Democrats Showed up for the Parade

What is more fun than a 4th of July parade? You guessed it! Participating in the parade. On Tuesday, July 4th, about 68 local Democrats, of all ages showed up to march with the Idaho Democrats’ float. The group looked awesome in their blue or tan freedom t-shirts and marched along with Erik’s old “Sarge” truck.

The volunteers marched, waved and called “Happy 4th” to the crowd from beginning to end. Having a presence at this big event in downtown Boise was a great way to show the friendly crowd that Democrats are a strong presence in our community. Many people cheered as the truck and entourage marched past.

4th of July BBQ with Fellow Democrats

Over 100 people showed up for this year’s 4th of July Barbecue at Julia Davis Park in downtown Boise on July 4. Highlights included brief speeches from Jared Deloof, David Roth and Mayor McLean. Great music was provided by the band Shiny Shoe Bob. Several volunteers grilled hotdogs and managed the salads and desserts donated by the group.

By 3:00 PM the food was gone, the last tune was played and the crowd headed home. Let’s mark our calendars for next year’s Idaho Democrats’ 4th of July Picnic.

When the Dems Work and When to Get Involved!

Our last newsletter discussed HOW the Dems work. Today we will tell you WHEN to get involved. The when is now! Too often, we wait until October to focus our energies on electing candidates, but your Ada County Dems work year-round to build our party structure. For instance, we are now recruiting and training candidates for municipal and school boards races, hosting events, raising money, training volunteers and ensuring that we are fully prepared for the 2023 election.

We need you now! The Ada County Democrats Central Committee meets the third Wednesday of each month at the Meridian City Hall and via zoom. These meetings are open to the public.

Each of the 11 districts within Ada County also have their own structure and meetings, and would love your participation at the local level. To find your district leadership, click here: https://www.adademocrats.org/government/legislature/

To find events, check our calendar: https://www.adademocrats.org/calendar/

We need you now to volunteer in the local office, make phone calls, knock doors or myriad  other tasks. This is the link to volunteer: https://www.mobilize.us/adacountydemocrats/

Don’t wake up November 6, 2024 wondering if you did all you could to save democracy in Idaho. The time is now!

The Gracie Pfost Gala

This September, we’re having the very first Gracie Pfost Gala. It is a continuation of the Ada Democrats recurring Gala, but this year is going to be really special. This year’s Gala is also going to be Ada’s first Gala West of Eagle Road- at least as far as I can tell! We had to skip our Gala in 2021 due to a COVID flare-up at the wrong time. That means that I personally haven’t even attended an Ada Dems Gala before! I moved here in April of 2021, and ever since then, I’ve been itching to get together with all the amazing people I work with and celebrate together.

This Gala is how the Ada Dems fund all the work we do. The more you attend, the more auction items we sell, the more help we can hire, or literature we can print, or events we can throw for the next two years until it comes around to the next Gala.

Campaign Manager Training

One of the biggest projects we’ve been working on this year is finally coming to fruition! The Ada Dems are hosting our Campaign Manager Training this month, on July 29th and 30th. This training is focused around solving a growing problem we’ve seen in Ada County- a lack of trained and experienced campaign staffers.

We are hosting an enormous training session – two eight hour days – going over every topic we think a new campaign manager might need. Best of all, we’re offering this training entirely free of charge.

If you have any questions, or know someone who you think would be interested in attending, contact us field@adademocrats.org or send them the link to RSVP here! https://www.mobilize.us/adacountydemocrats/event/570359/
