Protect Our Libraries Party!

With so much to do all the time, we need to work together as much as we can. In just two weeks, we’re doing that in the most fun way possible – we’re going to Barbarian Brewing in Garden City to socialize, relax a little, and hear from two amazing candidates for Library Board this year. Destinie Hart is running for Meridian Library District, and Mary Anne Saunders for the Ada Free Library District.

Join us at Barbarian to hear from these amazing candidates! April 17th, 7:00 PM, at Barbarian Brewing, 114 E 32nd St in Garden City! There’s less than 6 weeks left until the May 16th Election, and this is maybe going to be the most fun way to support these candidates. Don’t miss out! Get your tickets HERE!

Mary Anne Saunders for Ada Free Library

We have an amazing candidate for the Ada Free Library District this year. You’ll see her at Barbarian Brewing on April 17th, but since the clock is ticking, we wanted to introduce her to you now!

Hi, my name is Mary Anne Saunders. I am asking for your vote in the May 16 election for Ada County Free Library District Trustee. The district includes Lake Hazel, Victory, Star, Hidden Springs branches and Avimor presence.

I grew up in Idaho and have lived in the north of Star area for over 28 years. I am a patron of our wonderful library systems – our vital community hubs. Parts of our communities and, indeed, our nation, struggle these days with some differing viewpoints on public library materials. It is crucial to bring calm and careful consideration to these conversations. The recent struggles over book removal in the Meridian District have been emotionally charged, including statements such as “We are coming for you next.” I will defend the right to free speech with fervor while promoting a reasoned approach. That mind set is reflected in the campaign logo my artist granddaughter fashioned for me. I asked her to reflect books, diversity of people and joy.

I have more than 30 years of social service in private and public sectors. I believe in giving back to community, e.g., I have taught a weekly Fit and Fall Prevention class as a volunteer for the past 8 years. Holding a master’s degree in community organization and one in public administration affirmed the need for learning at all stages of life and for expanding viewpoints. They built my skills in with public budgets, accountability processes and managing conflict.

Thank you for your vote in this nonpartisan election.

If you’d like to learn more about Mary Anne, she’s posted a casual interview, where she talks more in depth about why she’s running! Check it out!
