Hey Neighbor,

Here’s a quick update from the Ada Dems:

Redistricting

The Idaho Citizen’s Commission on Reapportionment adopted their legislative and congressional maps last week. Basic on these plans, Ada County will have 11 legislative districts. Eight of those districts will be wholly within Ada County. Three legislative districts will split Ada County with our neighbors: District 10 (Ada & Canyon), District 14 (Ada & Gem), and District 23 (Ada, Canyon, & Owyhee).  There is a pending lawsuit from the Ada County Government focusing on the legislative district splits with Canyon, Gem, and Owyhee counties. We’ll keep you updated on how this lawsuit moves forward.  Here’s a look at the current plan:

Field Fellows

This year, we had the privilege of finding a group of wonderful young Democrats who worked through the Idaho Young Democrats right here in Ada County, learning the ropes and organizing our communities to come together and knock more doors and call more phones than we’ve ever attempted before in an off-year. We need every edge we can get in next year’s elections, and we need to be prepared to work harder than we’ve ever worked before. This is how we do it! The Idaho Young Dems Field Fellowship Program is all about finding new, talented, and passionate young Democrats. We need to train more people to work on campaigns and organize our communities and foster the passion and talent we find in the next generation of Democrats. This year, we hired six Field Fellows in Ada County who helped find volunteers and organize field events. This week, I’d like to give a special shout out to our Field Fellow in Eagle, Maddie Shelton!

Here’s a message from Maddie:

"Hi! My name is Maddie Shelton. I graduated from the University of Idaho in May 2021 with a degree in International Studies. I’ve lived in Eagle for the past six years. I love Eagle and Ada County, and that’s why I wanted to get involved in politics in this area. I’ve always had an interest in politics and a desire to uplift the voices of those around me. I really enjoyed getting to meet so many people in Eagle who care about making Idaho a better place! This fellowship taught me so much about field work and the political landscape of Idaho. I especially enjoyed getting to interact with volunteers and people in the community."

Maddie did an incredible job working in one of the reddest parts of the county. She found and connected activist groups into the Legislative District organization, and she worked alongside candidate James Lemon, learning the ins and outs of Votebuilder, script-writing, ran virtual phone baniks, and launched door knock events in Eagle. We need your support to continue the Field Fellowship Program next year! There will be even more irons in the fire, and more enthusiastic people for us to meet! Thank you Maddie!

Sincerely,

Ian Pannkuk,
Field Director
