September 15 – Candidate filing deadline, and what you need to know

Here are some updates to some ongoing news in Idaho and Ada County.

Candidate Filing Deadline

Last Friday was the last day for the Candidate Filing Period for this year’s elections! Everyone who is going to be on the ballot has now filed. Now is a good time to get started learning about everyone who is going to be on your ballot, and I’ve got a couple tools to help you get started.

Firstly, the link to all the candidates who have filed this year. This is relatively straightforward, but gets easier with the next tool. https://adacounty.id.gov/elections/candidate-filings/

Next, if you don’t know which districts you’re in, you’re not alone. There are more districts than most of us ever even think of – far beyond Legislative Districts whose boundaries just changed, we all live in school districts, library districts, fire districts, cemetery districts, and even storm drain districts! Ok, so there’s probably no one on your ballot running for storm drain commissioner, but you might be surprised to see how many of these districts have elections.

Click here to pull up the Ada County Clerk’s “GIS tool”. Just enter your address and read the side bar that pops up- there are a lot of extraneous details, but all of the important information should be right at the top.

There, you can see which City Council District you’re in, or any number of other districts you might be confused about.

Upcoming Training: Door Knocking!

This month, I am hosting a ground-floor training for Door Knocking. This training will cover the app MiniVAN, Door Knocking best practices and safety, as well as some Q&A about the volunteering experience in general. This training is meant for beginners, so all are welcome!
